At the turn of the century, Jules Destrooper was a baker and merchant handling colonial goods. To thank his clients, he gave them home baked 'Almond Butter Cookies' (Almond Thins). They were such a success that Jules Destrooper was obliged to sell them on a larger scale.
In 1956 the third Destrooper generation, Jean and Hubert, started managing the company and they acquired the Brussels biscuit maker R. Van Loo known for his famous 'Petits Sujets'. In addition, the 'Paris Butter Wafers' (Butter Crumble) joined the Destrooper productline.
The two sons of Hubert Destrooper, Patrick and Peter, began a new era in 1984. New lines of products, among which the famous Florentines, were introduced and new markets explored. Yet the company philosophy of Jules Destrooper has not changed. The cookies are still prepared in the same natural and refined manner, just as they were more than 100 years ago.
